I DID see this!  I was appauled!!  If they ever are able to catch him they should throw the book at him.  Unfortunately, I don't think they ever will since he's alrady run off to Malasia!!  Unfortunately, due to the internet, he's still able to CONTINUE to doop people & steal their money & kick them out of their homes!!

I saw it too. I too feel so bad for the dad. He even cried on TV. I really think the FBI needs to be involved because he did this in many states (and may still be doing it). They need to go catch the guy in Malaysia or organize it with local U.S. consular. Otherwise he would scam more and more people. Who would have thought someone would do that to less fortunate people?

I saw this too!  It scared me, when we moved here from AZ - used Craigslist to find a place. Parker was one of the areas I considered (but commute is too long for hubby work).  To think that we could have been in the mix of this.  I saw many homes that the rent was ssooo low. I did respond to a couple, but only found that the person responding back would not be able to personally show me the home - but I could send him $10 and he would fedex me the key to let myself in to view. Each one I responded to like that said that they were out of the contry on a Mission and they just wanted someone to take good care of their home and were not in it for profit - hence the low rent. It all screamed SCAM to me, so I never went any further with it.  Hmm .. I wonder if I still have any of those emails. Bottom line is ... if it seems too good to be true, it isn't real.  But, for someone who needs a break and sees these low rent prices I can see their draw and believe that if a key is provided, they must own the property.

I feel terrible for the single dad.  I wish I had a place for him and his kids to go.  They are now living with his parents in a small mobilehome. The poor kids had to leave their new school. I am sure there are many more out there.  What a dirty slime ball the Castle (not his real name?) is!

I also wonder if these people had to put security deposits down.  It is had enough to make it by in this economy and to think that they may have been duped out of their savings as well ... leaving them in a situation where they cannot put a deposit on another place .. no matter how small or low the rent.
